University Employee Fitness Classes

University Classes

 

The University of Minnesota, Morris Wellness Program is partnering with the Regional Fitness Center to offer Fitness Classes for it’s employees. University Employee Fitness Classes are eight-week classes designed to strengthen your muscles, enhance your cardiovascular fitness, and teach you the basics of a balanced exercise program. As a University employee and UPlan member, you can:

  • receive small group attention from a certified fitness instructor
  • 50% registration fee reimbursed when you attend 13 of 16 classes
  • participate in pre an post class fitness assessments
  • earn 150 Wellness Points toward reducing your 2019 premiums
  • enjoy a complimentary 8-week membership to the RFC during your program session

*Note: At this time reimbursements are for the UPlan members and their spouses only. Interested employees do not need a current membership of the Regional Fitness Center to participate.

Fall 2017 Classes

Aqua Fit

AquaFit is a low impact pool workout that is gentle on the joints to help improve agility and flexibility.  Participants will use a variety of aqua fitness tools to increase overall strength, balance and coordination.

Monday & Wednesday, 4:45-5:45pm; September 11th – November 1st.

 

GROUP STRENGTH EXPRESS

Tuesdays & Thursdays, October 3 – November 22nd; 12:10-1:00pm. This class is designed to increase muscle strength, enhance cardiovascular fitness, and teach you the basics of a balanced exercise program.

 

 

Yoga UYoga 101

To be determined for winter 2017-18.

This program is aimed to help individuals feel comfortable starting Yoga or to help those individuals already practicing Yoga to feel more confident and deepening their personal practice. Participants will take their techniques to the next level by gaining a more in dept explanation of various postures while practicing in a small group setting. The discipline of yoga promotes personal growth, physical health, well being and strengthens the connection between the body and mind. Yoga 101 is focused on the following:

  • Movement with breath
  • Anatomical alignment and body positioning
  • Self-empowerment
  • Mind-Body connection

Kettlebells UKettlebells

This class is very applicable for intermediate and advanced participants looking for a fresh perspective on their training regimens. Kettlebells is designed to improve muscular strength and power through exercises such as squats and swings.  Participants should have good mobility and a general exercise foundation.  A typical class session (meets for 45 minutes) would consist of the following phases:

  • 5-10 minutes dynamic warm up
  • 25-35 minutes of training session using kettlebells as the primary modality
  • 5-10 minutes of core conditioning and flexibility training
